\nDoes this scenario sound familiar?<\/p>\n

You get into the office early because you need to review the results of the overnight test run, and mail in the results before the 9:00am meeting.<\/p>\n

\u201cDarn, the overnight test failed at stage 6.\u00a0 Why did that fail?\u00a0 I need to figure out why and start it back up.
\nMan \u2013 the error code is so cryptic.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know what it means or how to fix it.\u00a0 Carl is a waste.\u00a0 He is always making my job harder.\u00a0His stuff is never right.\u00a0 I’ll get him to fix it\u2026it\u2019s his code.\u00a0 Oh \u2013 that\u2019s right.\u00a0 Carl doesn\u2019t get in the office until 8:30.\u00a0 But he\u2019s probably awake.\u00a0 Even if he isn’t — I don’t care. \u00a0 I\u2019ll find his cell number in his last email.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

When you bring up email, you notice several urgent emails from your 2nd<\/sup> line manager.\u00a0 You open those up and respond to a few other emails.\u00a0 In the meantime, other co-workers start to come in and you chat over some coffee.
\n8:45 am you see Carl coming down the hall and something triggers.<\/p>\n

\n\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cI needed Carl for something.\u00a0 Oh darn!\u00a0 CARL!
\nCarl: \u201cHey!\u00a0 How are you?\u201d
\n\u201cPitiful.\u00a0 The overnight run failed on stage 6 and the test results were due 2 days ago.\u00a0 I was able to get an extension for 9:00am today but \u2026.\u201d<\/em>
\nCarl: \u201cDude \u2013 that\u2019s in ten minutes.\u00a0 Why didn\u2019t you call me sooner?\u201d
\n\u201cYeah \u2026. I \u2026.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Although you may not have experienced the exact scenario, but we all have time slip away because of a series of momentary distractions.\u00a0 Although at the time they are occurring they don\u2019t seem sinister, but in a group they can be very destructive.<\/p>\n
