Know Your Audience.<\/strong> Be sure to understand your audience needs and capabilities. If you are presenting to a mixed audience, design and deliver your message for the top-level position in the room; if participants need details, they will ask for them.<\/p>\n Is It Your First Time? <\/strong>Ask former attendees, ask current members of the group, ask previous presenters, or ask who is organizing the meeting so you fully understand how presentations are typically made and what appeals to audience members.<\/p>\n Multiple Presenters? <\/strong>Are you sharing the stage with others?\u00a0 Be sure you have choreographed your presentation so everyone knows who\u2019s on when, and who will address questions.<\/p>\n Are Your Prepared? <\/strong> Apply risk management \u2013 be flexible.\u00a0 Build the frame of your presentation, practice the frame but be prepared for the unexpected.<\/p>\n Nervous?<\/strong> Don\u2019t hold your notes in your hand.\u00a0 Place your hands by your side (behind your back).\u00a0 Hold the lectern for reinforcement.<\/p>\n Listen:<\/strong> Be aware of how much information you are delivering.\u00a0 Is it too much information?\u00a0 Prepare for external distractions, faulty assumptions, preoccupation.\u00a0 Don\u2019t take rude audience member behaviors personally \u2013 their behaviors usually have nothing to do with you or your presentation.<\/p>\n Did You Grab Them?<\/strong> Grab their attention:\u00a0 Be enthusiastic.\u00a0 Be knowledgeable.<\/p>\n Is English their 2nd<\/sup> language?
