{"id":4744,"date":"2010-08-10T06:06:38","date_gmt":"2010-08-10T13:06:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/svapm.org\/?p=4744"},"modified":"2010-08-10T06:06:38","modified_gmt":"2010-08-10T13:06:38","slug":"stand-up-and-stand-out-part-ii","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/svapm.org\/?p=4744","title":{"rendered":"Stand Up and Stand Out, Part II"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You either love \u2018em or you hate \u2018em.\u00a0 Every project manager must make presentations during the life of a project.\u00a0 Do you get giddy at the prospect of being in front of the audience, or do you shrivel at the thought?<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Successful presentations require both thoughtful preparation and distinctive delivery.\u00a0 Every time.\u00a0 Here are four tips to deliver a successful presentation.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Presence. <\/strong>Stand tall, be confident.\u00a0 Tell your audience what you\u2019re going to      tell them. \u00a0Then tell them.\u00a0 When you\u2019re finished, tell them what you      told them.\u00a0 <strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Practice. <\/strong>Practice makes perfect, as they say.\u00a0 And they\u2019re right.\u00a0 The more familiar you are with your      presentation, the more polished you will be in front of the crowd.\u00a0 Practice, then practice some more.\u00a0 If possible, practice your presentation      in the room in which it will be delivered.\u00a0      This gives you the chance to \u201cfeel\u201d the room, get acquainted with      the equipment, and be comfortable with your surroundings.<strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Pace. <\/strong>Know the rhythm of your presentation.\u00a0 Be cognizant of time and be prepared for      interruptions \u2013 at any time.\u00a0 Always      plan for questions at the end of your presentation.<strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Prepare. <\/strong>Be ready for the unexpected and be able to handle      it.\u00a0 Your presentation materials      didn\u2019t arrive on time?\u00a0 Go on      without them.\u00a0 Your equipment fails      in the middle of the presentation?\u00a0      Know who to call for immediate assistance, continue as you wait for      them to arrive.\u00a0 You know your      presentation so well, you can do it without the equipment and props \u2013 the crowd      will be most impressed.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Knock &#8217;em dead!<\/p>\n<p>Lisa DiTullio, Principal, Lisa DiTulllio &amp;
