According to a recent USA Today<\/em> survey, the most stressful event for people is public speaking.\u00a0 Are you a project manager who experiences a rapid heartbeat and sweaty palms when it\u2019s your turn to present, or do you stand up and stand out with a confident, calm, and capable presence?<\/p>\n

Successful presentations require both thoughtful preparation and distinctive delivery.\u00a0 Every time.\u00a0 Here are four tips to promote the preparation of a successful presentation.<\/p>\n

  1. Cause. <\/strong> Do you know the purpose of your presentation?\u00a0 Are you clear on why you are presenting?\u00a0 Have clarity on what you are aiming to achieve at the end of your presentation \u2013 this will help you determine how to design and prepare it.<\/li>\n
  2. Clarity.<\/strong> Once you know the intent of your presentation, focus on it.\u00a0 Design your presentation with an eye on the target.\u00a0 Keep your messages succinct and to the point.\u00a0 Eliminate redundant slides or talking points.<\/li>\n
  3. Concise.<\/strong> Keep your presentation brief and to the point.\u00a0 You will lose your audience with too many words or too much data (both written and verbal).\u00a0 If you use PowerPoint, design your slides with as much white space as possible.\u00a0 Place words on the page to remind you of your talking points.\u00a0 Never read your slides your audience can do that without you.<\/li>\n
  4. 4. <\/strong>Creative. <\/strong>Make your presentations memorable by being innovative.\u00a0 Use pictures instead of words. Just remember \u2013 most business presentations are for just that \u2013 business.\u00a0 Use just enough creativity to be original and memorable.\u00a0 Too many special effects or animations may detract from your credibility.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
