{"id":4151,"date":"2010-05-06T17:42:19","date_gmt":"2010-05-07T00:42:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/svapm.org\/?p=4151"},"modified":"2010-05-06T17:42:19","modified_gmt":"2010-05-07T00:42:19","slug":"hello","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/svapm.org\/?p=4151","title":{"rendered":"Hello?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/svapm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/blah_blah.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-4152\" src=\"https:\/\/svapm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/blah_blah-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"90\" height=\"90\" \/><\/a>It doesn\u2019t matter what form of communication it is, when the recipient doesn\u2019t respond, it\u2019s frustrating.\u00a0 What do you do?<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>When establishing the relationship with your project sponsor, be sure to spend time with him or her to establish communication preferences.\u00a0 Find out how frequently you should update your sponsor on project activities.\u00a0 What level of detail does your sponsor need to be satisfied?\u00a0 What is the preferred mode of communication \u2013 in person, email or by phone?\u00a0 How do you define \u201cemergent\u201d situation, and how will you notify your sponsor of such events?<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a great way to label your emails; it specifically tells the recipient what&#8217;s needed and when:<\/p>\n<p>This email is:\u00a0 <strong>Actionable<\/strong>\u00a0 FYI\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Social<\/p>\n<p>Reply needed:\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>Yes<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Optional\u00a0 No<\/p>\n<p>Urgency:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Immediate\u00a0\u00a0 Soon\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>None<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Once you have established your communications protocol, you\u2019re all set, right?\u00a0 Not necessarily.\u00a0 Nothing is worse than sending the agreed-upon email only to receive deafening silence on the other end.\u00a0 Whenever possible, project sponsors should respond to your questions within 24 hours of receiving your email, even if it\u2019s to acknowledge receipt of the message.\u00a0 Understandingly busy, not all emails can be addressed in a timely manner.\u00a0 However, a \u201cGot it; will call later\u201d lets the sender know the message has been received and a response is forthcoming.<\/p>\n<p>What is more disconcerting is when there is no response or acknowledgement.\u00a0 This can cause a tremendous amount of stress for the sender, addressing the issue with a sponsor is much more difficult than addressing it with a colleague or teammate.\u00a0 You\u2019ve already made the first effort by asking which method of communication she prefers.\u00a0 You\u2019ve complied, and yet still no response.<\/p>\n<p>A courtesy follow-up through another mode is an option;
