{"id":4141,"date":"2010-05-05T09:52:22","date_gmt":"2010-05-05T16:52:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/svapm.org\/?p=4141"},"modified":"2010-05-05T09:53:27","modified_gmt":"2010-05-05T16:53:27","slug":"theyre-everywhere","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/svapm.org\/?p=4141","title":{"rendered":"They&#8217;re Everywhere!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/svapm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/800px-College_graduate_students1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-4143\" src=\"https:\/\/svapm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/800px-College_graduate_students1-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>We see them on the streets, in the coffee lines, at the movies.\u00a0 They are master multi-takers, able to text-message, surf the web, talk on the phone and download music all at the same time.\u00a0 They are Millennials.\u00a0 They are everywhere.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/svapm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/800px-College_graduate_students.jpg\"><\/a><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>For us Baby Boomers (born 1946-1964), it\u2019s almost impossible for us to imagine that the same faces that recently glared at us across the dinner table are the same faces joining our project teams.\u00a0 We have become multi-generational project teams, incubating our very own melting pots.<\/p>\n<p>The Millennials (born early 1980s-2000) also known as Generation Y, GenNext or the Google Generation are 76 million strong and make up the fastest-growing segment of workers today.\u00a0 Their work styles, work ethic and work philosophy can cause great disruption on our teams, if we don\u2019t pay attention.\u00a0 On the other hand, the arrival of the Millennials may be the best thing to have ever happened to projects today.<\/p>\n<p>According to Lynne Lancaster and David Stillman, authors of <em>The M-factor<\/em>, Millennials have a knack for finding creative solutions to workplace challenges.\u00a0\u00a0 They also want to know they are making a difference at their companies.\u00a0 They have an aptitude for creativity and innovation; Millennials have mastered an array of gadgets and have acted as \u201cconsultants\u201d to family and friends on everything from how to program cell phones to buying digital cameras.\u00a0 It\u2019s natural they will want to use these skills in the workplace &#8212; imagine the possibilities.<\/p>\n<p>Invite Millennials on your project teams as soon as you can.
