{"id":3812,"date":"2010-02-11T19:12:54","date_gmt":"2010-02-12T02:12:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/svapm.org\/?p=3812"},"modified":"2010-02-11T19:12:54","modified_gmt":"2010-02-12T02:12:54","slug":"stand-out","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/svapm.org\/?p=3812","title":{"rendered":"Stand Out!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-3813\" src=\"https:\/\/svapm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/self_assessment-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"self_assessment\" width=\"90\" height=\"90\" \/>Whether it\u2019s a networking event or a job search, making the right connection is critical to your future success. \u00a0\u00a0With unemployment hovering at 10%, how do you stand out among the crowd?<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Before making connections, create your roadmap to job creation.\u00a0 Focus on knowledge formation, be self-aware, seek guidance from others, and be creative.\u00a0 It\u2019s time to throw away traditional views and practices &#8211; &#8211; your resume\u00b4 alone no longer opens doors for you &#8211; &#8211; it\u2019s all about presenting yourself in new and innovative ways.<\/p>\n<p>Accomplishments and credentials no longer guarantee success; with more and more recognition around the power of multiple intelligences, you must be prepared to present yourself in a global way.\u00a0 There are three primary intelligences to consider:\u00a0 Emotional, Social and Cultural.\u00a0 Emotional IQ is about your self-awareness, how you relate with others, your ability to self-manage yourself in all situations or environments.\u00a0 Social IQ is having the ability to understand and manage social groups; you act wisely in groups and have knowledge of social situations.\u00a0 Cultural IQ is having the ability to understand differences and cope with different behaviors.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As you define your personal brand, remember the power of three.\u00a0 Know your skills, your attitude and your behaviors.\u00a0 Use this information to prepare for behavioral interviewing \u2013 this is when the interviewer will ask you probing questions under the premise that what you have done in the past will, to some extent, be a fair indicator of your future behavior.\u00a0 Questions are designed to assess what you have actually done in situations that have some relevance to the role for which you are applying for.\u00a0 Once asked about a certain situation, you will further interrogated with questions like, \u201cWhat were you feeling at that time?\u201d \u201cWhat did you do next?\u201d\u00a0 \u201cWhat did you learn from the experience?\u201d\u00a0 Prepare for multiple interviews, in group sessions, in different settings.<\/p>\n<p>Before you journey down the interview path, contemplate your employment options.\u00a0 Do you want a full-time role?\u00a0 Are you better suited for a contract position?\u00a0 Should you switch industries?\u00a0 Volunteer?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A self-assessment is a terrific way to be self-reflective before beginning the journey.\u00a0 A good self-assessment includes:<\/p>\n<p>A Value Inventory:\u00a0 What creates job satisfaction for you?\u00a0 Autonomy?\u00a0 Prestige? Security? Flexible work schedule?\u00a0 Leisure time?\u00a0 High Salary?<\/p>\n<p>An Interest Inventory:\u00a0 What are your likes\/dislikes regarding various activities?<\/p>\n<p>A Personality Inventory:\u00a0 What are your traits, motivational drivers, needs and attitudes?<\/p>\n<p>A Skills Assessment:\u00a0 What are you good at?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Write it down, set it aside, and revisit a few days later.\u00a0 Does it still make sense? Did you identify something new about yourself?
