<\/a>How can women navigate office politics while staying professional.<\/b><\/p>\nRegardless of whether you are male or female, the most effective way to get ahead in an office environment is to do the following:<\/p>\n
1)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Avoid gossip, rumors and negative judgments.\u00a0 Stay professional at all times.<\/p>\n
2)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Stay in control of your emotions.\u00a0 Stay calm and don\u2019t take anything personally.\u00a0 If you feel yourself becoming emotional, excuse yourself and regain your composure and confidence.\u00a0 (I have some great tips on how to regain your composure without leaving the room as well).<\/p>\n
3)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Consistently quantify your results and performance toward the company goals, mission and visions.<\/p>\n
4)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Publicize your results in metrics of $$:\u00a0 increased revenue or decreased costs; increased customer satisfaction or reduce time to market.<\/p>\n
5)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Think like the owner and treat the company like your company, regardless of your job title.\u00a0 Take the initiative beyond your defined title, role and responsibilities.\u00a0 Be responsible for creating leads, sales, promotions and illustrating that your company is the thought leader in their field.\u00a0 Companies are in the business to make money.<\/p>\n
6)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Compliment, acknowledge and publicly recognize other team member\u2019s contributions to your successes.<\/p>\n
7)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Become an effective business networker,\u00a0team lead and team builder toward the company’s bottom line.\u00a0 Recognize that you can accomplish more with a complementary team or entourage around you.\u00a0 If your manager is the only one that knows your value, you are doing a disservice to yourself.<\/p>\n
In general, when you continue to focus on the larger corporate picture, you will be able to stay unattached to temporary situations and avoid many of the in-fighting and politics. \u00a0 Start solving the higher-level, Big Picture, COMMON GOALS instead of the silos and individual project concerns.\u00a0 Focus on the company WIN\u00a0versus individual wins.
