Why?  <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"196\" height=\"129\" align=\"right\" alt=\"Everything you know about project management is wrong\" title=\"Everything you know about project management is wrong\" src=\"http:\/\/pmstudent.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/point_finger-300x198.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Some project managers accidentally stumble into the profession. Others enter the field on purpose. Both groups tend to settle into a particular way of managing projects, and over time it seems most form specific ideas about what works and what doesn&#8217;t from their experience.<\/p>\n<p>Projects in general have some similarities.<!--more--><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>producing something new<\/li>\n<li>there&#8217;s a team<\/li>\n<li>there are stakeholders<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I can&#8217;t think of any universal constants in projects right now.  There seems to be an inherently larger number of specific differences you could cite among projects.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>location\/culture<\/li>\n<li>product type<\/li>\n<li>technologies used<\/li>\n<li>organizational culture<\/li>\n<li>regulatory requirements<\/li>\n<li>size of project in $$<\/li>\n<li>length of project<\/li>\n<li>stakeholder personalities<\/li>\n<li>team personalities<\/li>\n<li>industry<\/li>\n<li>specialties<\/li>\n<li>etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In the end, this is why someone who has held a particular philosophy for 20 years about project management can be rediculed for holding that belief from someone else.  It&#8217;s worked for 20 years, how can it be wrong?<\/p>\n<h3>The punchline:  Let&#8217;s not get so dogmatic about our project management frameworks, methodologies, and techniques.  Use your experience in a particular situation to manage projects to success.
